He was the only nomination for the position and will formally take the chair at the club’s annual meeting on Tuesday, February 21.
Wilson, who publicly revealed his intention to stand as chairman in late December, told The Courier that the election returning officer had informed him on Wednesday there had been no other nominations for chairman.
The long-term survival of the North Ballarat Roosters in the VFL is the driving force behind his return to the position, which he held during their rise to the top and three consecutive premierships from 2008.
The future of the Roosters in the VFL became clouded late last year with the NBFC struggling to meet the financial demands of having a team in the competition.
Wilson also announced his “ticket” for the board election: former Ballarat mayor Judy Verlin; former board members Tim Bodey, Tony Godfrey, Ian Corcoran and David Shepherd; Justin Kroussoratis; Andrew Oliver; Leigh Marriott; Paul Bregazzi; and former Roosters captain and now NBJFC coach John Polkinghorne.
However, the football public will have to wait longer to find out who else has nominated.
Nominations for 10 board positions closed on Tuesday night, but interim chairman Shaune Moloney told The Courier that the club would not be releasing the list of candidates before voting opened on Friday, February 3.
Moloney said owing to privacy issues all he could reveal was that the number of nominations exceeded the vacancies.
The NBFC board comprises 11 positions.
Director of football is the only position not up for election, with incumbent Mark McGrath having another year to serve in the role.
Other vacancies are director of finance, director of BFL licensed operations and seven directors without portfolio.
Wilson said since announcing his intention to seek election as chairman, he had been heartened by the broad community support and the need for the continuance of the club’s involvement in the VFL – as evidenced by the promises of financial support of the business community
He said his group of nominees for the board had a range of experience and skill.
“In choosing the members, there had been a strong emphasis on those with financial and accounting qualification and experience, and others with strong community and business backgrounds.
“We are united in a desire to save our football club.
”We are committed to and are prepared to undertake the hard work that will be necessary to stabilise the club particularly financially, and to restore relationships with our members and the broad community”.
“We are equally committed to move forward with a new vision for football in our city and region, and particularly ensure the continuance of the Roosters’ participation in the VFL.”
North Ballarat Football Club oversees North Ballarat City in the Ballarat Football Netball League senior competition and North Ballarat Junior Football Club in the BFNL as well as the Roosters.
