The year 7 to 12 sites will take the place of Ballarat Secondary College’s Wendouree and East year 7 to 10 campuses, and follows the closure of BSC’s senior Barkly campus last year.
Principal Rick Gervasoni said it was hoped formal approval to become two stand alone schools would be granted shortly.
Mr Gervasoni said there would be just under 800 students and 80 staff across the two sites in 2017.
He also said the move back to offering year 11 and 12 classes had gone well.
“We staggered that over two years and a lot of staff have been teaching year 11 subjects already,” Mr Gervasoni said.
“It’s also created enthusiasm amongst the teachers who haven’t been able to teach VCE and it’s given them the opportunity to broaden their skills into that year level.”
He said new uniforms at both sites had been well received, though there will be a two year changeover period.
“It’s part of the way we are creating strong identities. The kids, the parents and the staff all identify much closer with the location around them.”
Mr Gervasoni said feedback from parents over the past few years was that they wanted a year 7 to 12 school, not three separate campuses
“Forming strong relationships with teachers has been a real positive that’s come through.”
Building upgrade works will also start at each site in the new few weeks.
