Olympian Steve Moneghetti said his family including two dogs, Heidi and Davey, would participate in the pet-friendly event, which is part of the Cycle Classic.
Moneghetti said it was “terrific” to see the event progress over the years.
“It is a cause close to my heart and having a walking and running component for participants to come and enjoy on the day rather than it only being for cycling – it’s an opportunity for the whole community to be involved,” he said. “It’s a lovely link for me… and it’s my home spot.”
Moneghetti said while Ballarat held plenty of events throughout the year, it was important for the community to unite behind such a good cause.
“This is a pretty special one in memory of Fiona Elsey and the work that they’re doing at the cancer research institute is really important,” he said.
The event kicks off on Sunday, February 19, at the Gardens Precinct. For more information or to register visit reach4research.com.au.
