The club suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Brunswick City in Sunday’s battle at Fawkner’s CB Smith Reserve.
Ballarat went behind early in the contest after the hosts found the back of the net in the sixth minute and greeted half time two goals in arrears after conceding again on 37 minutes.
After the break, the visitors finally found a way into the contest in the 69th minute thanks to a cracking strike from Pat Karras, who drove one home from outside the penalty area.
But Ballarat’s sniff of a comeback was shortlived as Brunswick forward Adam Wright netted his second for the day in the 84th minute.
A missed penalty conversion from Michael Trigger – after Charlie King was fouled – shortly before full time ended the afternoon on a sour note for Ballarat.
Ballarat coach Danny Gnjidic said the home side did better with its opportunities during the clash.
“Football is about scoring goals and retaining concentration and focus in key moments and that’s the things we didn’t do well today and were punished,” Gnjidic said.
Ballarat will play its first home game of the National Premier Leagues Victoria 2 season when it hosts Whittlesea Ranges at Morshead Park next Saturday.
