The 19-year-old became concerned about where her running was going for a while.
With this in mind last year’s Stonnington Women's Gift winner did not believe a win of this magnitude would come so soon- saying Ballarat was in the top three event on the Victorian Athletic League with Stawell and Stonnington.
It did though and in emphatic fashion in a classy final.
She hit the line ahead South Australia’s Amie Mittiga (5.25m), with Maddie Coates coming off the back mark of 2m for third.
Henderson’s win completed a rare Ballarat double.
She is coached by Craig Mair, who won the Ballarat Gift two years ago.
Henderson from Morang completed a clean sweep, winning her heat and semi-final as one of the best fields for a Ballarat women’s gift came together.
2013 winner Holly Dobbyn marked her return to the meet with a promising showing.
She progressed on Saturday as one of the fastest losers in the heats and then burst into the final as a semi-final winner.
ACT-based Ararat runner Sarah Blizzard, who won the open 70m on Saturday. was another impressive heat winner to make the final, while two-time Ballarat Women’s Gift winner Sophie Taylor was in the hunt for a third right to the end.
