The Real Housewives of Sydney star told Fairfax Media that although she does "not think a blanket ban works," she can see Trump's reasoning behind his attempts to restrict travel to the US from seven Muslim-majority countries, which a US federal appeals court has suspended.

"I am sure there are people within the country's borders already that are more of a threat but with the terrorist attacks around the world I think he's got reasons to be concerned," she said.

When it comes to Australian border control, she says there needs to be "more rigorous threats," but she laughs: "[Australian Prime Minister] Malcolm Turnbull would not have the guts."

Lisa continued: "[Trump] is fantastic, so many people have been disenfranchised for so long. I think it's very hard for, say, a working class family in Pennsylvania, who can barely cover the mortgage and put food on the table, for people to tell them that they are privileged because they are white. Colour should not matter. We are all in it together."

The reality star, who married the former Tony Abbott staffer in 2001, says she is not a supporter of One Nation, the party initially formed on the belief that Australia was being "swamped by Asians".

"No, I would say I am a conservative liberal and I always have been," she explained.

Although David was expelled from the party in 2000, the tension goes from nought to 100 on the first episode of the RHoS when the cast gossip about the age-old question – whether he slept with his One Nation co-founder and the party's current leader, Pauline Hanson, in 1996.

Lisa, who has been pitted as the early "villain" of the Foxtel drama, is frank but turns subdued when it comes to discussing Hanson's allegations.

"[The topic] is just a bit tawdry ... It's certainly not something that I lose sleep over, but I get more bored than angry," she said.

Lisa says she is "not the jealous type," which is just as well as she says David is still a big hit with the ladies.

"My husband is nearly 60 and I have women cracking on to him. It is pretty appalling," she said. "I know my husband is extremely loyal, so I am quite happy if they want to ... I am very happy with my man."

After getting a taste of reality television during his controversial stint on SBS' First Contact, Lisa roped David in to appear alongside her on the show which is mostly set in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and the Northern Beaches.

On the first episode, she shouts at him to "shut up, you c---," when he interrupts her, but she explained to Fairfax Media that it is a "term of endearment".

She says she "cringes" sometimes while watching the show, but wanted to take part for a "weird reason".

"I am a history buff. I love ancestry, so The Real Housewives of Sydney is my gift to my descendants," she said.
