An extension to Sovereign Hill’s Steinfield accommodation will allow the tourism operation to add a fifth goldfields “costumed school” to its education program, chief executive officer Jeremy Johnson said.

The six-room extension and a new carriage storage area were opened by Regional Development Minister Jaala Pulford on Monday as part of the state government’s By Day and By Night project.
The $12.8 million project, which includes $4.8 million from Sovereign Hill’s Museum Association and $8 million from the state government, saw the launch of a permanent light show at the outdoor museum last year.
“A quarter of our market is international, three quarters is domestic, you’ve always got to be doing something that generates interest in those markets,” Mr Johnson said.
“It’s a giant organisation to keep that going you’ve got to be dynamic. For this project, we know that we’re good in the schools market, the more you underpin that the more you can do in other areas.”
