The class is part of new Ballarat Christian College elective Cuisines of the World, taking students on a flavour journey this year.
Teacher Rachel Colvin has lived on four continents and wanted to expose her students to new vegetables, spices and cultures each week.
Ms Colvin hoped to draw on the ethnic heritage of students within the school and has pieced together a program drawing on Japanese, Korean, Chinese, African, Italian, Thai, Mexican and her own American background.
“Some of the kids have commented how healthy the foods are, but in my opinion even if it’s not quite healthy, everything is made from scratch and that’s important,” Ms Colvin said. “The fact they take it home and make it for their families its great too. It’s exposing parents and siblings to different cuisines.”
