The Red Caps dismissed the Pointies for 171 on Saturday and then got through the last five overs of the day to greet stumps at 0-9.
Some good contributions from the Golden Point middle and lower order – Andy Warrick made 43, Tamar Lambert 30 and Daniel White 29 – helped the visitors creep their way to a respectable total after 71.2 overs.
Wendouree openers Mathew Begbie and Cole Roscholler then got through the period before the close of play.
Jonty Wall and Ryan Simmonds both took three wickets each for the Red Caps.
Golden Point currently sits 12 points adrift of the top four with just one game to play after this encounter with Wendouree, which is second on the table.
Elsewhere on Saturday, wickets fell at a rapid rate at Alfredton as Ballarat-Redan took first innings points against North Ballarat.
The Two Swords were bowled out for 99 before they skittled the Roosters for just 48 in reply. Ballarat-Redan is 2-11 in its second innings.
North’s captain-coach Adam Eddy took six wickets in the first dig and one in the second, while Billy Jones claimed five for the hosts.
Mt Clear is 2-10 in reply to Napoleons-Sebastopol’s 189, while Brown Hill is 0-7 in pursuit of East Ballarat’s 212.
