From dusk until dawn performers will grace the stage on Lydiard Street South for Ballarat White Night’s Live Music Marathon.

The performance extravaganza features a diverse line up of artists, many of which are Ballarat based, and covers a range of genres including jazz, blues, rock, bluegrass and Celtic.
Stella Savy will kick off the marathon performance with her band Ballarat Ska Union at 7pm, before returning to the stage with Stella Savy Avek Frers at 2.40am.
She said Ballarat Ska Union was a “get up and boogie” kind of band that would be “heaps of fun”, while Stella Savy Avek Frers featured her original music influenced by her Seychelle Island heritage.
It was only last weekend the Ballarat musician was performing as part of Melbourne’s White Night event.
“The vibe in Melbourne was just beautiful with so many people just having a really good time,” Savy said.
“I think Ballarat will be different because in Melbourne you are competing with the (already) lit up cityscape... so I actually think Ballarat will be quite spectacular.”
She said one of her favourite aspects of the event was the incorporation of all the different art forms and described the visual elements as “amazing”.
“It is such a great thing having an event where the streets are open, entertainment is flowing and it is all free,” Savy said.
“It is a fantastic concept and I am really proud to be doing it in Ballarat. It is ground breaking for the city and I really do think people should get behind it and check it out.”
Another performer on the night is local musician Paige Duggan, who is establishing herself as an Australian jazz artist.
She will perform, with her band The Paige Duggan Quintet, a range of swinging upbeat numbers to get the crowd on its feet.
Scheduled for a 1.20am start, it will be the first time she performs at such an early hour.
“White Night has a huge representation in Melbourne and across the world as being a great event in terms of visual and performing arts,” Duggan said.
“I’m sure it will be a lot of fun, especially if it is anything like White Night in Melbourne… and it is a great platform for artists. We’re all there for the same reason – to be able to enjoy the sights and sounds and seeing the city in a different way.”
Other performers include Los Cojones, Motor City Sounds, Johnny Rooster, Trillionayers, Rhythm Arkadia, The Drowsy Maggies and Better Than the Wizards.
