The American pair were teammates at University of Delaware, where they helped drive the Fightin’ Blue Hens to a conference championships in 2014. Usher, a two-time all-conference player, led the Blue Hens in scoring and rebounding.
Now Usher and King-Davis have reunited at the Minerdome, arriving in Ballarat this week, and have made getting to know their teammates’ games a top priority in preparation for the South East Australian Basketball League.
Usher said he was keen to continue developing his game in the SEABL after two seasons in the NBA D-League. He said he could not wait to be part of a winning atmosphere and would do all he could to help bring Ballarat a championship.
When he heard the Miners were after another big man, he immediately thought of his old Blue Hens teammate.
King-Davis arrives after a productive year in college basketball, averaging 14.8 points and nine rebounds per game with 12 double-doubles.
He boosts the Miners tall stock, with Chris Smith and Cam McCallum already in training.
Miners captain Ash Constable (Cairns Taipans), Craig Moller (Sydney Kings) and Sam Short (Melbourne United) each return to the Minerdome after a summer spent working with NBL clubs.
The Miners open their SEABL season against arch-rival Geelong Supercats away at The Arena on March 31.
