The Smart Building and Living Expo will feature an array of the new vehicles, including electric motorcycles and the latest models of the environmentally-sensitive car.
“Electric vehicles are widely regarded the future of sustainable transport,” says Expo director Andrea Mason.
“When powered by 100 per cent green power they have one of the lowest carbon emission footprints. This will be the largest display of vehicles seen in the region.”
Ms Mason says a common barrier to electric vehicle uptake is the current lack of publicly-accessible charging stations.

To that end there will be a goods and services auction at 12.30pm to raise funds for a public charging station in Buninyong to help expand the electric vehicle charging network in Australia.
“We are very pleased to have received a grant of $2000 from the Rainbow Serpent Festival community to bring this worthwhile addition to our community.” Ms Mason said.
Bruce Cameron is a former qualified mechanic who trained and specialised in the service of hybrid vehicles.
He says that the current range of electric vehicles in Australia can carry enough charge to cover the average distance of a commuter trip – about 50km.
There are currently three charging points for electric cars in Ballarat, and Mr Cameron says more are inevitable.
Buninyong Sustainability have been the committee of management for the former football ground for almost 10 years. They are gradually introducing elements such as a community garden and plans for a new building to replace the ageing football clubrooms.
The expo is now in its fourth year and will feature sustainable practice builders and architects, with stalls offering effective environmental design such as structural products, insulation, retrofitting, blinds, solar systems and batteries, bushfire attack level ratings, environmental, food and lifestyle products.
The expo will also host the Buninyong Village Market this year. together, Ms Mason says there will be over 60 stalls this year including builders, designers, Other activities too including pedal-powered slot car racing, waterbugs, children’s plantings, music and food stalls.
Ms Mason says the expo is a great opportunity to meet people in the local community who are also passionate about efficient buildings and sustainable design.
The Expo is at Royal Park, Buninyong, on Sunday February 26 from 10am – 3.30pm as part of the National Sustainable Living Festival 2017.
