Victoria’s victims of crime commissioner Greg Davies was the guest speaker and led discussions around bail justices following the Bourke Street tragedy last month.
Retired bail justice Michael Cheshire said figures showed bail justices remanded into custody about 86 per cent of all cases, while magistrates remanded only 18 per cent.
Among the attendees were Police Superintendent Andrew Allen and Royal Victorian Association of Honorary Justices president Norman Wittingslow.
The night recognised those who had joined the 100 club, meaning they had served the local community by being available to sign and witness documents 100 times on a roster at Ballarat police station.
Members of the Ballarat branch were also presented with certificates for reaching long service.
