The school partnered with Nuka Primary School in Japan to paint a mural together as part of the Japan Art Mile Mural project.
The pupils engaged in regular Skype sessions to teach each other about their cultures, which inspired the artwork.
The mural will be sent to Japan next week to join murals from schools all over the world in an impressive and colourful display.
The cultural exchange continued when students from Japan’s Kanazawa Seiryo University were welcomed into the classroom on Thursday morning.
Japanese language teacher Peta Ikeda said the year 5 and 6 pupils had been talking for weeks about the visiting students.
“The kids were so excited – the students are teaching them origami, and we’ve played some traditional Japanese games together,” Ms Ikeda said.
“It is so important that our children get to have authentic Japanese experiences. Being able to speak with a Japanese person is very engaging for them.”
The experience may just be enough to inspire the pupils to continue their Japanese studies in high school.
