Glyn Schofield has been impressed by Prized Icon from the first time he got on him and for a third consecutive preparation he will look to win a group 1 on the colt in Saturday's Randwick Guineas.

"There isn't many horses that are able to do that, win a group at every preparation, and he is a little underestimated," Schofield said. "He has a goal at each of his preparations and got the job done. He is getting to a trip where he is effective."

Prized Icon is only part of a high-quality book for the inform jockey, who has ridden a winner at the past four city meetings, that run also including Le Romain in the Canterbury Stakes and Del Cielo in the Challenge Stakes.

"It is one of those days where you [are] going to the races with a spring in your step," Schofield said. "It is something I have done before but it is exciting."

Prized Icon has already won the Champagne Stakes as a two-year-old at Randwick over 1600m and stepped up to become the Victoria Derby winner in the spring. His only other group 1 run was a third in the Spring Champion Stakes

The possibility of a wet track does not scare Schofield, who knows the son of More Than Ready will be better suited in the Guineas than when sixth in the Hobartville Stakes. Schofield has built a great combination with James Cummings in the past year and has been delighted with the improvement of Prized Icon since the slowly run Hobartville.

"He has done well, he has tightened up a bit and if there is a bit of rain around that won't worry him," Schofield said.

"It is another furlong and the Randwick mile holds no fears for him. He has got speed and a bit of stamina and that is what you need at the Randwick mile and he has won a group 1 there before."

Schofield has partnered Kris Lees-trained Del Cielo, a group 1 winner in New Zealand which has found his form again over the short course this time in, scoring a booming win at Warwick Farm and Randwick.

"He jumps up in grade but the way he has been winning his races has been like the good horse he is," Schofield said.

His efforts on Del Cielo have led to Schofield picking up the ride on Le Romain in the Canterbury Stakes as regular rider Hugh Bowman is suspended.

Le Romain won his first group 1 on this day last year when he scored an upset win in the Randwick Guineas and backed it up by winning the Cantala Stakes at Flemington in the spring. The four-year-old returned a winner in the Southern Cross Stakes, beating a number of his rivals on Saturday.

"He will be on speed and has a good wet-track record. He is a miler, so he will be very tough over this trip and will be hard to beat," Schofield said.
