Former president Simon Jess said parts of the barbecue area’s panelling had been broken off and estimated repair costs to be between $1500 and $2500.
He said the barbecue was built near the skate park for community enjoyment and fundraising events.
“It has been built with community money for the community to use and to have something like that happen is really disappointing,” he said.
Mr Jess said both repairs and preventative measures such as security lighting or surveillance cameras would come at a cost to the club.
“You’re never going to stop it… it is not like we can put a security fence around it or lock it as it defeats the purpose of making it available to the public,” he said.
“We will work out what is the best avenue – whether we just buffer the rough edges and save the expense because if we repair it, someone might just break it again.”
The club will hold a meeting to discuss what course of action to take.
