Police said a number of teachers and students were in the area and close to the utility at the time of the incident.
Officers were called to Eglinton Road about 2.30pm after a number of motorists and school staff reported the man driving in a reckless manner near the front of the school.
“The male drove a blue Ford Falcon utility to Eglinton Road where he stopped in the active school zone outside All Saints’ College,” a police spokesperson said.
“The male commenced to drive the utility in a dangerous manner conducting numerous burnouts and doughnuts on the road, footpath and grass shoulder of the roadway outside the school.
“The male has then driven the utility into the school entrance erratically before exiting again and recommencing doing doughnuts and burnouts on the roadway outside the entrance to the school.
“The driver has then, on a number of occasions, crashed the utility into a telegraph pole, concrete culvert and an Armco railing which protects the entry to an underground tunnel used by school students to access the schools cricket and soccer fields.”
Officers attached to Bathurst Highway Patrol found the ute in Eglinton a short time later and arrested a 26-year-old South West Rocks man.
The driver was breath tested and returned a positive reading for alcohol.
He was taken to Bathurst police station where he was charged with a number of offences including driving with high-range prescribed concentration of alcohol, driving in a manner dangerous to the public and aggravated burnout.
The man will appear before Bathurst Local Court later this year.
Police seized the utility under vehicle sanctioning legislation due to the seriousness of the offences.
