Organisers will attempt to make the tournament hosted at Lake Karrinyup even more appealing for golf lovers, with a live DJ planned for the 18th hole and Perth patrons themselves having a crack at a huge payday through a $1 million hole-in-one competition.

PGA of Australia chief commercial officer Steve Ayles dubbed the weekend's inaugural event won by local West Australian Brett Rumford a huge success, saying the unique format was well received by the players.

The first three rounds were played as traditional stroke play, with only the top 24 players qualifying for Sunday's matchplay, where golfers went head-to-head in a series of six-hole, knockout battles.

If a matchplay round ended in a tie, the winner was decided over a 90m shootout hole.

And it's not just players who will have the chance to earn a mint, with confirmation from tournament organisers it was considering a $1 million hole-in-one competition for fans to take part in.

Perth will host the new concept tournament, which importantly is tri-sanctioned by the European Tour, Asian Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia, for at least two more years after it replaced the previous Perth International held at the same layout.

Local hero Rumford won the inaugural event, regaining his European Tour card in the process after struggling with injury last year, while British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen bombed out in the matchplay quarterfinals after earlier missing a five-foot putt to secure a win.

Ayles said early feedback from broadcasters on TV viewership was good and he wants to make the tournament more fun next year, with early plans focusing on a DJ to entertain fans by the 18th green.

Ayles has taken note of the American tournament's strong success for players, fans and TV viewers.

"I think having a DJ is something we'll consider very strongly," Ayles said. "Everyone's loving the music.

"And the players have made it clear they are fine with music. They are fine with noise in the background.

"What they don't want is dead quiet, and then a sudden noise, particularly in their back-swing.

"But if there's music in the background, or people just chatting, that's fine, they don't mind that."

Ayles wants to grow the fan capacity and engagement around the 18th green, which is also part of the shootout hole and hosts several VIP corporate tents.

And a closest-to-the-pin hole is likely to decide any tied matchplays that couldn't be split after a shootout hole from next year.

Tournament organisers initially planned to introduce the concept for this year but had to scrap it just days before the World Super 6 started when it failed to gain approval in time from the Official Golf World Rankings board.
