The Victorian Gender and Sexuality Commissioner Ro Allen will be in the city to give a presentation on the state’s LGBTI Equality agenda.
The Department of Premier and Cabinet is currently rolling out an LGBTI Equality Roadshow across regional and rural Victoria.
As part of its roadshow the state the government has requested a meeting with community and business members from Ballarat. The purpose of the event is to reduce discrimination and promote inclusion of LGBTI people in the community. A breakfast event is being held by the Committee for Ballarat on Wednesday at Craig’s Royal Hotel.
Committee for Ballarat chief executive Melanie Robertson said the organisation was thrilled to be a part of the roadshow.
“If we want to promote Ballarat as vibrant, progressive city then these are the issues that need to be at the forefront of our community,” she said.
An experienced and longstanding advocate for LGBTI Victorians, Ms Allen has held leadership positions including as a former chair of the Adult, Community and Further Education Board, the Victorian Skills Commission, and the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria.
In 2003, Ms Allen received a Centenary Medal and in 2009 she was inducted into the Victorian Government Honour Roll for Women. The event will be held at 7.30am on Wednesday at the Reading Room, Craig’s Royal Hotel, 10 Lydiard Street South, Ballarat.
