The book drive, which begins this week until March 31. Co-organiser Angus McCallum landed on the idea when he heard South Sudanese lawyer and former refugee Deng Thiak Adut speak at M.A.D.E.
“He was asked by one of the members after describing his time as a child soldier what could be done to help people in that situation.
“He said while money is good it can be sometimes quite difficult to get it to places so the donation of resources - in particular books - was something that was often more helpful.”
Books can be dropped at Ballarat Library. Ballarat North Primary School is also taking part.
“What it hopefully will do, in a very small way, is open up education to these countries,” Mr McCallum said.
The books should be in English, suitable for children between the ages of two and 12-years-old and in good condition.
