The Red Caps secured top position with a commanding 71-run victory over Napoleons-Sebastopol at Wendouree on Saturday.
With Darley and Mt Clear claiming first innings points, Wendouree and Napoleons-Sebastopol will clash again in a knock-out semi-final next weekend.
Darley and Mt Clear will meet in the other semi-final.
Jack Peeters ensured Wendouree’s 270 runs were more than enough with a five-wicket haul as Naps-Sebas came up well short with 199
Peeters took 5-38 off 13 overs as he tore through the middle and lower order.
Naps-Sebas was fortunate to get as close as did, with Dan Scott coming to the rescue with 72 (11 fours) after the visitors had collapsed to be 9-106.
Wendouree needed a run out to end the innings and a 93-run stand by Scott and Joseph Lynch, 29 (4 fours).
While it was hardly the outcome Napoleons-Sebastopol was looking for on the eve of a finals campaign, Mt Clear showed some real fight to recover from a shaky start to overcome Ballarat-Redan.
The Mounties resumed on a precarious 3-15 in pursuit of the Two Swords’ 150 and after losing Nathan Yates and Curt Townrow in quick succession to be 5-33 was in even deeper trouble.
It took a big effort from Matt Ward and Nicholas Baird to turn the match in Mt Clear’s favour with a 112-run stand.
Ward scored 111 (17 fours, 1 six) in a three-hour stay at the crease, while Baird’s highest score of the season of 62 came off 77 balls, with eight fours and two sixes.
Baird was out just six runs short of the win, but Ward batted on as Mt Clear reached 232.
North Ballarat finished the season on a high by chasing down Brown Hill’s 197 and in doing so climbing off the bottom of the ladder to hand Ballarat-Redan the wooden spoon.
Leigh Lorenzen saved his best of the season to last, with the opener top scoring with 66 in the four-wicket win at the Northern Oval.
Lorenzen was supported by an even effort in which five others passed 20.
