Police are highly concerned by the number of drivers who took to the wheel with illicit drugs in their system in the Ballarat region over the long weekend.

Eleven drivers in the Ballarat police area and three in the Moorabool region were caught driving after consuming drugs. Senior Sergeant Pat Cleary said The alarming result comes after police said nearly have of motorists killed in collision last year were impacted by drugs or alcohol.
“The weekend was marred by a serious injury collision and the number of those found to be driving with drugs in their system,” Senior Sergeant Cleary said.
“It is concerning and an area police will continue to focus on. If you drive with drugs in your system, you genuinely endangering other road users.” Also of concern was the number of drivers issued penalties for speeding – a total of 68.
“The results show that if you do choose to drive with drugs and alcohol in your system – you will eventually be caught,” Senior Sergeant Cleary said.
