Tony Lockett, the AFL's greatest ever goal kicker, has joined the Swans' coaching staff in a massive coup for the club ahead of round one against Port Adelaide next weekend.

Lockett, arguably Ballarat’s greatest ever football export, has undergone a remarkable physical transformation since his playing days.

Pictures from Swans training on Tuesday show a dramatic difference and social media lit up in reaction.

Swans chairman Andrew Pridham announced Lockett had rejoined the club at Tuesday night's annual guernsey and hall of fame dinner.

"Plugger" will travel from his Bowral home every two weeks to work with the club's forward line, including Lance Franklin, Kurt Tippett and Sam Reid.

"It's fantastic for our players to have access to Tony during our training sessions," Sydney coach John Longmire said.

"He obviously knows a thing or two about goal-kicking, and to be able to draw upon that experience and knowledge can only be a good thing for our players.

"We've been wanting to get Tony back for quite a few years now.

"He seems to be keen to get involved, so it's really good for our younger players in particular to have access to his knowledge."

It'll be his first footy role since announcing his retirement 15 years ago having bagged an astonishing 1360 career goals.

His playing career spanned almost two decades and 281 games as one of the most feared and dominant full forwards of all time.

He won a Brownlow Medal in 1987, was a four-time Coleman Medallist and was named All Australian on five occasions. He is also a legend in the AFL's Hall Of Fame.

Meanwhile, dual premiership player Jude Bolton was inducted into the Sydney Swans Hall Of Fame on Tuesday night, while 19th century key position star Peter Burns become the seventh Bloods legend.

Bolton received his Hall Of Fame honour in front of 650 guests at the club's annual guernsey presentation dinner at the Star, while promising new recruits Oliver Florent and Will Hayward received their first Swans jumpers.

Melbourne-born Bolton played 325 games for the Swans, and won the 2005 and 2012 flags in a hardy 15-year career. The midfielder was the third-fastest player in the game's history to rack up a triple century of games at the top level after being drafted to Sydney with pick number eight in 1998.

Burns meanwhile joined Bob Skilton, Bob Pratt, Paul Kelly, Peter Bedford, Herbie Matthews and Ron Clegg on the most esteemed rung of Swans' recognition.

The hard nosed defender who could also play midfield and ruck debuted for South Melbourne in 1885, winning a Victorian Football Association flag that season.

He also played in the hat-trick of VFA premierships in 1888, 1889 and 1890 and was the first footballer to play 300 VFA/VFL games - 125 of those wearing the South Melbourne colours.
