Ballarat Miners launch their Big V youth basketball league season at the Minerdome on Saturday night.

Head coach Travis Hewish said the young Miners were coming together nicely.

“We have lots of new faces around the team and some bright up-and-coming players.

“We’ve had a long pre-season so it will be great to get out there and start the season.”

The Miners, which had their last warm-up outings in the Ballarat senior tournament at the weekend, meet Hume City in youth league one men at 7.45pm in a doubleheader with Rush.

The girls meet Dandenong Rangers at 6pm in the second phase of the youth championship women’s opening round.

Rush started its campaign with a 74-59 loss to Bendigo at the annual Big V tournament at the weekend.

Taylah Wynne led the scoring with 15 points.

Other points: Claire Constable 9, Laura Taylor 9, Claire Blower 8, Isabel Fraser 7, Amelia Jarvis 7.
