The roundabout – in the Woolworths car park at the corner of Albert and Hertford streets – has been removed as part of a major car park revamp.
The roundabout was the scene of a serious car accident last May when a man broke his foot after being dragged under a car which had driven up on the roundabout.
Ballarat City Council also confirmed it had received dozens of complaints about the roundabout.
However, the council has no jurisdiction over the car park which has now attracted criticism for poor signage of its new pedestrian crossings.
One is placed between two disability parks which would make it difficult to see from larger disability vans unless they have backing cameras.
When The Courier visited recently, pedestrians and drivers alike largely ignored the new crossings – and even the new car park bays, which have been designed with more space between them.
One vehicle had simply parked bonnet to boot with the car in front of it, in the old manner, rather than following the new painted lines allowing for a few metres gap between cars.
Woolworths do not own the car park and a store spokesman said they were unaware who the private owners were.
