Multi-award winning blues/soul troubadour Shaun Kirk has been labelled “one of the finest blues voices this country has ever heard” (Buzz Magazine) and “one of the most explosive solo acts this country has to offer” (Mixdown).
His achievements include 20,000 independent sales, 150,000 YouTube views and appearances at festivals like Bluesfest, Woodford, Queenscliff and Port Fairy.
Kirk returns to the pub, where he is a frequent visitor, featuring work from latest album, Steer The Wheel. The album is his most electrified album to date, seeing him explore beyond the blues influences that have characterised his previous work.
March 24-31, Bliss Bombs @ The Grande, Hepburn
Bliss Bombs are returning for a second burlesque show, featuring, in true Vaudevillian style, plenty of song, dance, laughs and tease. History Repeating explores the world of women’s fashion and lingerie of times past. Tickets are limited.
Saturday, Pugsley Buzzard @ Horvat’s Supper Club
From the jazz cellars of Berlin to downtown New Orleans, Buzzard has dazzled audiences far and wide with his unique brand of piano-driven boogie and blazing stride, along with a huge, mezmerising voice.
Louis Armstrong, Dr John, Tom Waits, a hint of Fats Domino all influence this unique singer/pianist.
Saturday, Jeff Lang @ Sutton’s House Of Music, Ballarat
Lang will launch his new album Alone in Bad Company at a launch this Saturday evening.
With regular cohorts Alison Ferrier and Danny McKenna, some self-penned material and some contributions from legend Don Walker, Lang’s show will feature acoustic fingerpicking, slide guitar, banjos, mandolin and blue-eyed soul singing.
Mesmerising and, of course, absolutely inspiring and/or demoralising to guitar-playing aspirants, Lang will also perform material from his 11 previous albums. Unmissable.
Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn Springs
Friday: Scott Fraser; Saturday: Rohan Souter; Sunday: North East.
March 17-29, Castlemaine State Festival, various venues
Castlemaine State Festival has taken an abandoned transport hub, the Castlemaine Goods Shed, and transformed it into the next stop for Australia’s regional creative industry.
During the festival, the shed will host 16 great circus theatre shows over 10 days. Companies are coming from Switzerland, Argentina, Sweden and Spain.
