Ballarat Indian Association has long honoured Diwali, the festival of lights, across the region. Now the association has made its mark in the festival of colours.
Association member Dawn Poulose, who hails from southern India, said festival was more from northern India but at its core, celebrations were a festive day to meet others, laugh – and throw a bit of colour around.
The association made a splah by Lake Wendouree on Sunday, inviting all passers-by to share in the fun and culture.
“The are Holi events in Melbourne, but we thought we’d bring it to Ballarat,” Mr Poulose said.
Holi has been part of a 10-day annual Harmony Fest across the city, starting last Friday, and featuring a multi-sports day for all cultures to speak the universal language of sport on Sunday.
Harmony Fest will conclude in an inaugural Intercultural Cities Gala Dinner.
