Thunderstorms late on Monday dropped sporadic rain across the region on Monday but the Bureau is predicting more to come, leading to possible flash flooding.
The latest severe weather warning from BOM has predicted widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms developing across most districts overnight and Tuesday.
Rainfall totals of 20 to 50mm are expected in the warning area today, with totals exceeding 70mm possible.
Ballarat had only received 14mm up until 7am but some areas where thunderstorms hit like Bacchus Marsh had three times this amount.
The Bureau warns periods of heavy rain may lead to flash flooding are likely as a result across the state on Tuesday.
The severe thunderstorm warning was cancelled about 1am.
The low pressure trough over South Australia causing it all will move across northern Victoria on Tuesday.
24 hour totals of 20 to 40mm are expected with totals exceeding 60mm possible associated with thunderstorm activity.
Locations which may be affected include Horsham,Bendigo, Maryborough, Ballarat, Geelong, and Melbourne.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- * Don't walk, ride or drive through flood water;
- * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
- * Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks;
- * Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads;
