Piston has moved to Melbourne with employment and is lining up with Monash Blues in Premier B division – the second tier of the VAFA.
Pitson said it was not easy leaving Lake Wendouree.
“They’ve been great to me and it’s an exciting time for the club.”
Pitson is a big loss for Lake Wendouree after a standout 2016 season.
He finished second to North Ballarat City’s Derick Micallef in the BFL goalkicking award with 57 majors in the home and away series.
The agile key forward added another three in three finals.
Pitson booted a season-high seven goals in the second outing of the season, a performance which helped lock him into the BFL representative team against Western Region in the AFL Victoria Community Championship at the Whitten Oval.
Pitson was also selected at full forward in the BFL team of the year.
He joins another inter-league player Tom Carey (De La Salle) and fellow tall Tanner Robertson (Deniliquin Rovers) as big departures for Lakers.
On the plus side, Lake Wendouree has picked up Tatyoon premiership player Arthur Armstrong.
Lakers coach Tim Malone said Armstrong had been a late pick-up after doing pre-season with VFL team North Ballarat Roosters.
Malone said Armstrong shaped as a boost for the big man department in the absence of Carey and Robertson.
Armstrong has played all his football with Tatyoon, the past five years at senior level.
AFL GOLDFIELDS’ inaugural seniors thirds competition.
However, there will be no Ballarat presence.
Sunbury Lions and Kangaroos, Diggers Rest, Bacchus Marsh and Melton South have entered teams in the competition, which aims to cater for players who are unable to get a game in seniors and reserves.
THE immediate playing future of Bacchus Marsh premiership player Damian Cupido remains uncertain.
Cupido signed with Bairnsdale in the Gippsland league, but parted ways with the Redlegs earlier this year.
The Courier spoke with Bairnsdale, but the club chose not to comment.
He did apply for a clearance to Shepparton Swans in the Goulburn Valley league, but was refused by Bairnsdale. The Swans confirmed with The Courier they would not be pursuing Cupido’s services.
The Courier has been unable to get in touch with Cupido, who kicked 51 goals, represented the BFL and was named in the BFL team of the year.
