The project helps to celebrate World Water Day, with Central Highlands Water and City of Ballarat officially opening four new drink refill fountains in aquatic spaces. This builds on fountains already in place about Lake Wendouree, Federation University and Ballarat Library.
CHW chairman Jeremy Johnson said making more fountains accessible, in popular recreational areas, helped promote the benefits of drinking tap water as part of a healthy, environmentally friendly lifestyle.
“These young children from Sebastopol represent the future and it’s important we provide them with as much information as we can about the benefits of drinking tap water,” Mr Johnson said.
In Ballarat, 10 per cent of people use bottled water as their source of drinking water in the home, according to Choose Tap campaign. The cost of one litre of bottled water equates to one litre of tap water daily for two years.
