The Red Caps will be pleased with the commanding score, but will also lament a disappointing final 10 overs.
At one stage Wendouree looked poised to post over 300 runs as Tom Le Lievre (56 runs) and Matthew Smith (34 runs) scored freely around the Red Caps mainstay Liam Brady – who top-scored with 77.
However, Wendouree lost its last five wickets for just 21 runs as it made an unsuccessful attempt at quick runs.
Lions’ captain-coach Heath Pritchard was outstanding for the fielding side. He took 5-61 and bowled tirelessly throughout his 24 overs, which included 11 maidens.
Darley will be hoping it can have similar success with the bat on Sunday in what is already looking like an extremely even contest and one that will need every minute of the four-day match to decide a BCA first grade winner.
Play will get underway from 1pm at Eastern Oval.
