A man became trapped under his car after it rolled on top of him near a fishing spot in Melbourne's west this morning.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said the man, aged in his 20s, was trying to park his car near the Melton Reservoir in Brookfield when it began sliding down a muddy embankment about 9.20am.
The man jumped out of his car and attempted to stop its descent, but the vehicle rolled on top of him.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said he was pinned underneath the car for about four minutes before he was freed by a bystander.
He was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition with head and chest injuries and burns on his leg.
