Scotland expects to miss the Devils’ opening round blockbuster clash with reigning premier Bacchus Marsh at Darley Park on Sunday, April 23, after undergoing knee surgery.
He said the procedure had been relatively minor – describing it as a clean-up.
Scotland believes that at the most he will sidelined for two rounds.
He said with him committing to playing he had decided it was better to have the surgery now rather than interrupt his season once it was in full stride.
Scotland initially signed as a non-playing coach, but with his coaching panel in place and the bulk of the Devils’ key recruiting completed early in the pre-season decided to play on in his first year with Darley.
Meanwhile, Geelong VFL-listed Jake Edwards has retained Darley as his home club.
Scotland said Edwards had confirmed the link after again earning a spot on the Cats’ list.
He said he did not expect to see Edwards playing in black and white too often, but it was pleasing to see him continuing as a Darley player.
THE BFL is just 10 days away from a much anticipated season opener between Brendan Fevola’s Melton South and Melton at Melton Recreation Reserve on Saturday, April 8.
This will be played as a stand alone fixture ahead of another marquee game between Melton South and Sunbury on Good Friday on April 14.
