Hayden Walters has lodged a clearance from East Point in a bid to call the Bombers his home club in season 2017.
While it is expected Walters will pull on the red and black jumper at times this year, he won’t be available for Buninyong’s Central Highlands Football League grand final rematch with Springbank on Saturday afternoon.
Instead, the midfielder will be playing for the North Ballarat Roosters in a practice match.
Walters has been confirmed as part of the Roosters’ squad for their Victorian Football League campaign and will only become available for the Bombers when not required at the higher level.
Buninyong coach Jarrod Morgan said the recruitment of Walters came after he stopped training with Essendon and found a place at North Ballarat.
Walters has previously been on Essendon and Footscray VFL lists.
“He’s got some good mates at the club and he’s been coming out to a few of our functions for the last couple of years,” Morgan said.
“With him being more local and having some really good mates out at Buninyong, he just wanted to have us as his home club.”
Morgan said he is unsure how many games Walters will be able to play in the CHFL this season.
“All I know is that when he is not there (at North Ballarat), he will be with us,” Morgan said.
Morgan is preparing to lead his side into battle this Saturday against the Tigers in the opening round of the CHFL season.
Buninyong lost to Springbank in last year’s grand final.
In 2017, the Tigers are out to become the first club in the league’s history to win three-straight senior flags.
