Cumani’s galloper scored a 2.75-length victory in the 1600m event for jockey Craig Robertson.
War Story beat Our Bottino and Don't Kel Yamemma to win the $30,000 race.
The former English galloper had run five previous races in Australia before Saturday’s triumph, with his best effort a fifth placing at Sandown in March.
Now seven-years-old, War Story ran 28 races overseas before landing at Cumani’s Ballarat stables.
War Story’s success was Cumani’s fourth of the year and backs up wins by stablemates Show A Star, Golden Authority and Mr Coyne in 2017.
Cumani also had Lichen Lad race at the feature Warracknabeal meeting, but he was only able to manage fifth in a 2000m benchmark 64 event.
