A teenager who allegedly assaulted a man in the Ballarat Police Station cells has been charged and remanded into custody.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the Dana Street cells at midday on Sunday April 9 to treat a man with upper body injuries.
A police spokeswoman confirmed a 19-year-old man had been charged with intentionally causing injury after an altercation in the police cells.
A 42-year-old man received non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Ballarat Base Hospital.
Professional Standards Command have been notified and will have oversight of the investigation. This process is standard protocol when a person is injured in police custody.
The 19-year-old has been remanded to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on July 6.
