The Keep the Original Route (KORs) group wants the highway duplicated to the north of the chosen alignment, along the current road.
A Supreme Court challenge instigated by KORs and Buangor landowners has been adjourned while VicRoads submits an application to have expired planning permits re-approved.
KORs spokesperson Russell Pearse said the group believed a different route could save millions of dollars.
“There are hundreds of individuals who also support a comprehensive panel review of the Environmental Effects Statement data and the potential for an alternative narrow northern alignment,” he said.
“It would save tens of millions of dollars, catastrophic ecological destruction and ongoing legal action to achieve the required safety and efficiency standards.”
The group has also written to Environment Minister Lily D’Ambrosio to detail concerns about the project following a meeting on Tuesday last week.
