One man is dead and another seriously injured following a horrific head-on crash on a highway in regional Victoria.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash near Goornong, north-east of Bendigo, on Friday afternoon.
Police said the crash occurred on the Midland Highway when two vehicles, a 4x4 Toyota Hilux and a light rigid truck, collided head-on around 1.45pm.
Investigators believe the driver of the south-bound car veered across the highway and collided with the north-bound truck.
The male driver and sole occupant of the car died at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a man from Stewarton, was flown to a Melbourne hospital with serious injuries.
Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding another fatal single car crash which occurred near Alexandra on Friday evening.
The crash happened on the Maroondah Highway at about 7.30pm.
Police believe a utility, travelling south, veered across the highway and struck a tree.
The man who was driving the vehicle was the only occupant.
He died at the scene.
A passer-by came across the crash scene and notified emergency services.
The two crashes brings the Victorian road toll to 81, compared to 90 for the same period last year.
