Coaches will replace trains for the entire journey between Ballarat, Wendouree and Southern Cross Station on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23.
The upgrades are part of a $3.5 million program on the Ballarat line.
Extensive works are being carried out on the Lydiard Street railway gates including the replacement of one of the timber gates and the installation of new crank foundations.
V/Line Regional Manager Peter Gibson said upgrade works on the line will ensure trains run safely and reliably.
“The Ballarat line is V/Line’s second busiest, and our teams are working throughout the weekend to deliver this important works program for our customers.”
The improvements will see new rail laid between Bacchus March and Ballan.
New drainage and signalling works will also be undertaken near Caroline Springs.
Trains will operate between Ararat and Wendouree, connecting with coaches between Wendouree and Southern Cross Station.
Customers are advised to allow an extra 45 minutes’ travel time.
