Money lust to cost dearly
In their effort to justify their proposed massive new Carmichael coal mine here in Australia, money-lusting Indian entity Adani and our own morally bankrupt Coalition government tell us that if India does not source coal from us it will be forced to get “dirtier” coal from elsewhere. This is nothing but a disgraceful red herring and demonstrates contempt for genuine efforts to combat climate change, including the Paris Climate Agreement. It’s also a pathetically missed exciting opportunity for Australia to help India transition instead to clean renewable energies on a massive scale while avoiding the inevitable lung disease that burning millions more tonnes of yesteryear coal will inflict on their own population, and the appallingly costly climate woes it will inflict on our own farmers.

Australian Values?
Spraying your neighbour's shrubs with weed killer; taunting, harassing, stalking a neighbour because that neighbour lives on her own and is older. Making anonymous/nuisance calls to a neighbour because a neighbour lives on her own and cannot prove them and all because these "Australians" think their neighbour is weaker than them. Just a few Australian values the PM did not mention.

TOO precious for indifference
People generally don't understand why MADE isn't operating as it should, particularly when it had a $14 million overhaul. As I have been banging on for years, Eureka is Ballarat's point of difference. Does anybody care? From the recent Council edict, it doesn't seem so - MADE only has funding from Council for the next 12 months! MADE is a failure of the previous council administration. Why are we not engaging with Eureka's patrons Steve Bracks, Rob Knowles and Lucy Turnbull (yes the PM's wife) to lobby for it to become a fully funded statutory body, supported by both the state and federal governments? Our democracy is precious. We must celebrate Our Eureka; Our democracy. This requires leadership.
ON another matter, I thought we had a delayed April Fool's Day last week, when I heard about the proposal for the 2030 Commonwealth Games to be hosted by regional Victoria, with Shepparton to be the major centre of activity. To me, to have the games spread over such a wide area would be a logistical nightmare in terms of transport, venue utilisation, spectator attendance, and accommodation and care for the athletes. I'm not Melbourne-centric, but our capital city has all the facilities that rate with the best anywhere in the world to host such a games, as was demonstrated with its staging of the Commonwealth Games in 2006. In 2030, would all those world-class venues in Melbourne remain idle?

Who gave us local TV
In his letter, Graham Pierce was critical of the amount of local football coverage on WIN local news. I guess we would all like what interests us to dominate the local news, but I want to point out a couple of things about WIN.
The WIN Network is the only network to have provided a local news service in the Ballarat/Western Victoria market for decades. WIN spend considerable amounts of money employing reporters, cameramen and support staff to provide what I believe is a very good local news service in an ever competitive market.
I think it is terrific that Southern Cross Austereo (NINE) have recently started a local news service, and they too should be commended. While it is easy to criticise WIN for a perceived lack of local football content, remember that they were the only ones who gave us a decent service for a very long time. Coming from a media background, I know only too well it is hard to please everyone.
