The 2-2 score was reflective of the match held at Lara Recreation Reserve on Sunday with both teams competitive throughout the game.
Lisie Dodds scored the first goal from a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box at the 30-minute mark of the first half.
Lara managed to level the scores 1-1 before half-time.
In the second half, it was Lara first to take the lead. But it did not take long for Strikers’ assistant coach Alison Pym to come to the rescue and level the score.
Pym’s goal at the 76-minute mark was the result of an impressive through ball from Natalie Barbara.
Barbara, who is part of the Strikers’ leadership group, was named player of the day.
Players who had come up from last year’s development squad each performed well for the Strikers and the whole team responded with a more competitive second half.
Rain meant a heavy ground, which had an impact on the game, making it difficult for the players to kick the ball a greater distance.
The young squad is now looking to improve on its opening round draw.
The development squad defeated Lara United 4-2.
The Strikers play their first home game at Morshead Park against Bundoora United on Sunday, April 30.
