You’re the best (man)
Depending on the size of your wedding, they may include:
- Organise the bachelor party with the other groomsmen, who will no doubt be willing helpers. The cost should be split among the guests who attend the party.
- Assume the responsibility of being the groom's personal aide before and during the wedding, mentally holding his hand every step of the way.
- Help the groom choose and rent (or buy) his wedding outfit and coordinate the other groomsmen's outfits.
- Help arrange accommodations for any groomsmen who are travelling from another town.
- Attend the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner with the bride and groom and everyone else in the bridal party.
- Stand beside the groom at the altar and keep the bride's ring until vows are exchanged. Find a safe place for the ring - best check your pockets don't have holes.
- Sign the marriage license as a witness after the ceremony.
- Give the wedding celebrant a sealed envelope with their fee (the groom's responsibility) just after the ceremony.
- Walk in with and dance with the maid of honor during the wedding party dances.
- Give the first toast to the bride and groom at the reception. This is your biggest responsibility.
- Decorate the bridal car. Get the other groomsmen and the bridesmaids to help with this one.
- Drive the couple to the wedding-night hotel after the reception. If you perform this service, you'll naturally need to stay sober throughout the reception. If you don’t think this will happen, hire a limo to take the newlyweds to their destination.
