The effective use of technology in education has changed the face of education and schools are forging innovative new paths and platforms for learning, training and living in a global digital world. Loreto College shares three inspiring examples of applied technology in education.
Loreto College actively involves arts students in the complex technological world of sound and lighting. Within the state-of-the-art Mary’s Mount Centre, students learn critical behind the scenes skills from global experts in the field.
The technological training required to manage intricate sound and lighting platforms on the growing world stage of theatre production, is nurtured through facilities, educators and the unique opportunity for applied learning. Students work alongside staff, former students and guest educators who have forged successful careers in sound and lighting and theatre productions all over the world.

From global to local, Loreto College uses technology to ‘intrigue’ its students in learning. As a part of a Year 8 Integrated project, students are working on a project to develop new sustainable communities in Ballarat.
This involves the use of technology to test environmental conditions and evaluate energy production methods and works to develop skills in the S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) curriculum areas.
The students complete the project by reporting on their findings in an audio visual presentation to a judging panel. Innovative and purposeful, the use of technology is intertwined into a multitude of aspects of the project as it would be if conducted outside a school environment.
With an emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers as an integral part of our future, Loreto College strives to equip its students with tangible experiences that ‘inspire’ them to choose these pathways, one such experience is the NASA Space Camp.
The biannual trip is designed to promote an understanding and love of the study of STEM; showing the possibilities open to students who pursue study in these areas. By visiting key locations such as the Kennedy Space Centre, students can explore the history of space.
Experiences such as active astronaut training and simulated missions allow students to have hands on experience using aspects of the technology used by trained professionals within the industry.
Loreto College uses applied and specialist technology within a wide range of areas which enhances the learning experiences of young women; establishing the College as an educational institution that is involved, intrigued and inspired by technology.
