The hosts kicked seven goals to two in the first two terms before cruising to a 35-point victory in the AFL Victoria Country Championships under-19 clash in Lyndhurst.
The game was played as a curtain-raiser to the senior fixture between the two leagues.
In a good fightback, the Highlanders outscored the Southern FL after the main break, but were never in the hunt for victory.
Leoncini said the home side was “cleaner and quicker”.
“We were outclassed in the first half, no question about it,” Leoncini told The Courier.
Leoncini praised the defensive group of six, which was led by CHFL best on ground medal winner Lachlan Hull and Brett Maher and wingers Joel Chester, Hayden Rodgers and Lachlan Snaith, which he said opened up the game.
Jacob Brown kicked two majors to be the only CHFL multiple goal-kicker.
