And AFL Goldfields commercial and regional operations manager Aaron Nunn cannot see any reason he should not be retained.
Nunn said the BFL board of directors would have the final say, but if O’Loughlin wanted to coach again he would have a strong case to retain the job.
O’Loughlin has a one-win/one-loss record.
Ballarat lost to metropolitan-based Western Region, which it is set to meet again in 2018, by three points last year and rebounded with an 11-point win over Bendigo on Saturday.
“I’ve enjoyed it,” O’Loughlin said.
He said it had been great working with the competition’s elite players and a quality coaching panel.
O’Loughlin said as always any coaching role was dependent on fitting in with family commitments and his work as a school teacher. “They always come first.”
He again reiterated the success of the shorter preparation time for the squad, which was selected up front – eliminating the need for player cuts and extended training programs.
O’Loughlin is also in talks with AFLW team Melbourne, where he was “ball movement” coach last season.
He said with the development of the AFLW, assistant coaching roles would demand greater time and commitment. O’Loughlin said the job could mean two to three trips to Melbourne each week in the pre-season early in the year.
