Richmond’s Victorian Football League joint vice-captain Tom Langford was cleared to the Eagles in time for last Saturday’s clash with Rokewood-Corindhap and had a big impact in the team’s 51-point win over the Grasshoppers.
Langford, who gained a transfer from Central Murray league side Woorinen, kicked a goal and was named Gordon’s second best player in the win away from home.
It was a much-needed success for the Eagles, which had dropped their previous three games against Beaufort, Hepburn and Waubra.
Gordon is now seventh on the ladder leading into Saturday’s game against Skipton.
Langford’s signing follows that of former AFL player Cam Richardson, who joined the Eagles from Bacchus Marsh before the start of the 2017 season.
Eagles coach Gary Learmonth said it was unclear how many games Langford would play with his side, but hoped he could at least qualify for finals by featuring in the required three home and away fixtures.
Langford played in the TAC Cup with the Oakleigh Chargers, has spent time in the SANFL and was previously with Port Melbourne in the VFL before joining the Tigers last season.
He played 10 VFL games in 2016.
“He's got a lot of experience and anyone that can play at that level of footy is going to certainly add a lot in the Central Highlands or any regional club,” Learmonth said.
Learmonth said it was hoped Langford, a utility, would be available to play against the Emus this weekend.
After a poor start to the new season, Gordon is in the midst of a run of matches where it will start warm favourites. After the Emus, the Eagles battle Creswick, Carngham-Linton and Clunes before the bye.
