LOVINGLY encouraged eggs have made Larissa Robins’ life crazy in a good way.
About eight months on from having 1100 hens arrive on her property near Geelong, Larissa is preparing to sell the fresh free-range eggs in her hometown at next week’s Design Exchange winter market.
Money collected on the door will support Larissa and her Love Your Eggs venture.
Larissa, a mother of three children and a field of hens, has stage four bone cancer that has spread through her body.
The farm is a way for her to contribute to her family, to create a business legacy and place her husband and children could always feel safe and close to her.
Plus, she wanted to keep her girls happy on the land with a strong focus on ‘true’ eggs.
“It’s been crazy. Just nuts,” Larissa said.
“It has been a lot of work but it’s been keeping me busy, not just sitting around thinking of other things.
“We’re still finding our way, making mistakes and learning from them – finding out as we go.”
There has been a buzz and demand for Larissa’s eggs through the Design Exchange after sharing her story last year. This will be the second time she will have her produce on hand for sale.
Larissa said Love Your Eggs had been getting good feedback from buyers, cafes and grocers about Geelong and the Surf Coast, including Meredith Baking Co.
The eggs are yet to crack into the Ballarat market but Larissa was open to talking to Ballarat retailers. For now, the eggs were just available at the Design Exchange.
“Even if you just want to treat yourself, we’ll be there,” Larissa said. “We think we’re going okay...we’re extremely happy.”
Love Your Eggs is named in honour, and with approval, of Daylesford siblings Samuel and Connie Johnson’s Love Your Sister campaign to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness.
A percentage of door takings from the last Design Exchange has helped Larissa buy a pump for the farm.
The next Design Exchange is at Ballarat Mining Exchange on Sunday, June 5, from 10am.
