A young bricklayer whose car was stolen and torched has spoken out in the hope something is done to stop a string of suspicious car fires throughout Ballarat.

Ashley Wilson woke on Friday to find his white Nissan Pulsar had been stolen from his home in Mount Clear.
The 22-year-old then found out it had turned up burnt to a crisp opposite Magpie Primary School – at least more than six kilometres away.
Mr Wilson was at a loss to explain the crime.
“I only bought the car last week,” he said.
“I’ve missed a day’s work, which means I lose money. Something needs to be done about these car thefts, because people who need to work and earn a living need a car.”
Firefighters rushed to the scene in Magpie about 6am, quickly controlling the blaze but it was too late to save the car.
Many Ballarat residents took to Facebook to voice their disgust and the crime, empathising with Mr Wilson.
“Unbelievable, the cretins we have to live with,” one man wrote. Police investigated a car fire hot spot in Nerrida last month.
