The stand-up duo judged Ballarat’s Best Beard and ‘Stache at Ballarat Heritage Festival on Saturday.
“We shaved on exactly the same day and we’ve had the beards ever since,” Chris Nelson said.
“We stand in front of the mirror together with a pair of scissors and chop them but the only thing is I’ve got a blonde streak which I can’t do anything about.”
Both have had nightmares of the other losing their beard, Chris said.
“Justin and I have both woken up at different times dreaming that the other one had shaved their beard off.”
Australian Beard and Moustache Club founder David John White has refused to shave since leaving the army in the eighties. Mr White judged last year’s competition.
“I had to shave every day and I hated it so as soon as I left I said ‘that’s the end of the razor’,” he said.
Ballarat Memorial Band and Ballarat Brass Band played both days on The George Hotel balcony.
“We get spectators at the Old Colonists Club across the road, we’ve had mirrored dancing across the two balconies some years,” Ballarat Memorial Band president Rebecca Paton said.
Exhibits included Ballarat mystery board games designed by Federation University graphic design students at the Mechanics Institute.
Brooke Forrest’s board game, Ballarat Escape, is based on a Chinese curse that if a person came to Ballarat they were either destined to return or never to leave. The game’s goal is to escape Ballarat.
