The club celebrated 140 years on Saturday with a race around Lake Wendouree, its final race for the year.
“The first races that they had here for the lake, they actually used to bring the boats from Melbourne on the train and then bullock cart them from the railway station. Some prizes were for 100 pounds” Mr Littlejohn said.
“In the early days the club used to have its own baseball team, its own table tennis team – the works.”
Mr Littlejohn said the club was about to undergo a renovation to increase the number of boats it can have on the water.
”The club is probably one of Ballarat’s best kept secrets, a lot of people still wouldn’t know it’s there.”
